What’s your role in EMB?

PhD student (3rd year)

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently investigating how birds have adapted their necks to their environments, and what might this tell us about neck evolution in archosaurs (a group of related animals: birds, crocodiles and dinosaurs).

How and why did you get into your current research?

My undergraduate and masters degrees focused on palaeontology, and I knew that’s what I wanted to do immediately after watching Jurassic Park for the first time. After speaking with some professors during my undergrad, I was amazed at just how little we know about the biomechanics of living animals, never mind animals that lived millions of years ago. Going forward, I want to focus on studying the biomechanics on living animals so that we can properly understand how extinct animals moved and how biomechanics of certain parts of the body evolved through time.
